Hank L. Torbert

Hank L. Torbert serves as a Managing Partner of Avondale Ventures, LLC. He is responsible for investment selection and analysis, transaction structuring, investor relations and portfolio management and monitoring.  Mr. Torbert has over 10 years of experience in private equity, advisory, investment banking and the development of small and middle market media and communications companies.

 

Mr. Torbert founded Avondale Ventures in 2006. From 2004 to 2006, Mr. Torbert served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Broadcast Capital, a media-focused private equity firm with a twenty-five year history.  Mr. Torbert was responsible for the firm’s investment strategy, portfolio management and the firm’s operations. As well, Mr. Torbert expanded Broadcap’s focus from investing in broadcasting to also include digital and converged media, outdoor advertising, content and programming and other sub-sectors.

 

From 1999 to 2004, Mr. Torbert was an investment banker at JPMorgan Chase. He served as a Vice President of the Financial Sponsor Group, Middle Market Banking, at JPMorgan Chase Bank (a subsidiary of JPMorgan Chase), where he was a member of a four-person team that covered the firm’s top tier middle market private equity clients. He was responsible for sourcing and financing private equity investment opportunities for financial sponsors investing in the middle market, with a special industry focus on media, healthcare, and consumer products transactions. Additionally, he completed over $100 billion in transactions in the media and telecommunications industry as a senior associate in the Equity Capital Markets Group, at JPMorgan Securities.  Mr. Torbert also has held positions at AIG Capital Partners, where he focused on analyzing global private equity investments and on raising capital for the firm’s $1 billion Global Emerging Markets Fund, and New Africa Advisers, a firm focused on developing U.S. and African private equity investment opportunities. He played an integral role in developing and launching the firm’s private equity and open-end fund products.

 

Mr. Torbert has played an integral role in the launch of Fluid Audio Networks (www.fluidaudio.com, www.idolunderground.com) the on-line presence for the television show American Idol; HorrorNet, a horror focused cable / VOD network; and MixcastTV (www.mixcast.tv), an on-line television network.  As well, Mr. Torbert is currently on the Board of Directors of Fluid Audio Networks and Medstar Research Institute.  Mr. Torbert speaks regularly at media industry seminars on venture capital and other investment-related topics and is a recipient of the Network Journal’s Top 40 Under 40 Award.  Mr. Torbert holds a B.A. from Columbia University. He earned both a masters degree in International Finance and an M.B.A. from Columbia University. Mr. Torbert is also an alumnus and  Trustee of the Taft School.

Reg Greiner

Reg Greiner serves as a Venture Partner of Avondale Ventures, LLC. He is responsible for investment selection and analysis, transaction structuring, investor relations and portfolio management and monitoring.   Mr. Greiner has over 10 years of private equity, advisory and banking experience with a keen focus on small and middle market media and communications. Reg has specialized in the Media and Communications sectors since 2000 with a focus on mid size and large cap companies. He has utilized and developed his extensive contacts with private equity sponsor groups, industry executives and entrepreneurs in order to generate strong deal flow.  Prior to Avondale, Mr. Greiner has held key positions at UBS Capital and Rare Medium Ventures.  At UBS Capital, Reg leveraged his longstanding contacts to assist UBS’ top-line management teams in investing straight off the balance sheet with not only direct private equity investments, but fund investments as well.

 

At Rare Medium Ventures, Reg was asked to establish and lead the opportunity of building a specialized industry vertical for Rare Medium’s Wireless and  Communications Group. Reg’s extensive contacts with the wireless and telecom service providers and equity sponsor groups provided Rare Medium with access to proprietary deal flow across most of the sectors in wireless and communications.  Reg ended up establishing a joint venture with Motient Corporation, Rare Medium Ventures, and XM Satellite Radio that has today evolved into Skyterra Corporation (SKYT.OB) and Mobile Satellite Ventures (“MSV”).

 

Currently Reg is involved with a number of Financial Sponsors and Investments that he actively serves on the Board of and as an active advisor.  Since 2003, his focus has been in the Southeastern United States and the West Coast with regards to both investment and investment banking opportunities within Telecom and Wireless in which he currently acts as a Partner within SCP Capital. Over the years Reg has become a recognized leader and advisor to various financial sponsors and investment banks regarding deal flow, advisory, and direct investment opportunities.

 

In his positions at UBS, Rare Medium Ventures, Thomson Financial and SCP Capital, he has established intimate relationships with hundreds of Financial Sponsors, including the responsibility to manage, invest, and exit over 65 LP positions, 35 direct investments, and is currently involved with 10 existing deals that have made Reg a top advocate, advisor, and investor amongst the middle market Telecom and Wireless.  He earned a BS degree from Siena College and an IBC from Georgetown University.
